[24:4]  1 tn Heb “for to my country and my relatives you must go.”

[24:4]  2 tn Heb “and take.”

[25:20]  3 tn Heb “And Isaac was the son of forty years when he took Rebekah.”

[25:20]  4 sn Some valuable information is provided here. We learn here that Isaac married thirty-five years before Abraham died, that Rebekah was barren for twenty years, and that Abraham would have lived to see Jacob and Esau begin to grow up. The death of Abraham was recorded in the first part of the chapter as a “tidying up” of one generation before beginning the account of the next.

[27:43]  5 tn Heb “listen to my voice.”

[27:43]  6 tn Heb “arise, flee.”

[28:2]  7 tn Heb “Arise! Go!” The first of the two imperatives is adverbial and stresses the immediacy of the departure.

[29:5]  8 tn Heb “son.”

[29:5]  9 tn Heb “and they said, ‘We know.’” The word “him” is not in the Hebrew text, but has been supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons. In the translation several introductory clauses throughout this section have been placed after the direct discourse they introduce for stylistic reasons as well.

[29:12]  10 tn Heb “declared.”

[29:12]  11 tn Heb “that he [was] the brother of her father.”

[29:13]  12 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Jacob) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[29:13]  13 tn Heb “and he told to Laban all these things.” This might mean Jacob told Laban how he happened to be there, but Laban’s response (see v. 14) suggests “all these things” refers to what Jacob had previously told Rachel (see v. 12).
